The Echo of Economy

Kenny Mokuolu

Matthew 6: 19-21

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves  treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

A man cannot work in one country while his paycheck is sent to another, except he has an account there, so also, it is not possible for us work on earth while simultaneously building treasures, dividends, and investments in heaven except we have an account there.

To say that work in one world translates into wealth in another is to underscore the fact that there is a connection between both worlds. In this manner there exist trade relations between both worlds for such to be the case.

As we dissect the words of Jesus we cannot but concluded that there is trade relations between heaven and earth. While heaven may seem so far away, let us realize that it may not be as far as we think. I submit to you that heaven and earth are connected and do influence and affect one another.

T. Rowe Price, a financial investment company produced a commercial a years ago in which they asked the question; “how can rice production in India affect wheat output in the US or the shipping industry in Norway?” Their answer was that they understood “the connections of a complex global economy.”

There is a God economy between heaven and earth. If we understand it, and our God given part in it, we can position ourselves to maximize growth in heaven’s economy.

The point I am trying to make here is that for what I do on earth to be translatable to a ‘building up’ of anything in heaven, there is of necessity a connection and a tangible gate between heaven and earth. Let me borrow the words of Maximus Decimus Meridius in the movie, The Gladiator, “what we do in life, echoes in eternity.” So, I live on earth but my actions that resounds in heaven. I work on earth, enjoy living but make sure to lay up treasures in heaven.

What are the treasure in heaven? Gold, rubies, and diamonds? No. God. And life everlasting and much more than we know.

How do we lay up treasures in heaven? Matthew 19:21. Follow Jesus and do whatever He tells you to do.
