The Paradox of Pain

Kenny Mokuolu

Pain; that agonizing and uncomfortable feeling you get when something is interrupted or out of place. Like your arm twisted behind your back, like the feeling of a clear paper cut on a delicate finger, or punch straight to the face. Worse still, the emotional and mental pain of loss or a broken relationship. That is hard very hard.

How about the pains that seem to go on forever, like, dealing with a chronic sickness, a family member addicted to drugs, a runaway daughter or sibling, or a family torn apart.  None of these in themselves are good.

We all agree pain hurts, it throbs the heart with displeasure, yet if we listen to it, it just might tell us what needs to be put right. It may reveal what we’re doing wrong, and give us a reason, a reason to change our approach. And worst still if nothing changes, it maybe that we are the ones needing to change.

In God’s view our pain can serve as a new beginning, a creative force, moulding us, guiding us, teaching us, and gradually bringing us to who we are made to be or where we are meant to be.

It is the pains and inconveniences, irritations of the present that forces you to seek a new reality. It is the pain of a woman in labor that forces her to push through to deliver a new life into the world.

So if you’re stressed and troubled about your pain, I urge you to reflect on God’s word. Rest, recharge, or reroute if you must, but don’t resign. Don’t lose hope.

Remember the scriptures; “for I know the thoughts that I think towards you. Thoughts of good and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

So friends,  be encouraged. Don’t despair. Don’t lose. Keep faith. There is a method to the madness. Be still and listen some more to that quiet still small voice. You will make it. You will recover all. Be encouraged, there is a pathway to the paradox of pain.
